Bowyer Set To Drop The Gloves Tonight

...but can he skate??

Clint Bowyer is one of the top drivers in NASCAR, but tonight, he’ll trade in his nomex driving gloves for a pair of hockey gloves.

The Michael Waltrip Racing driver will attend tonight’s NHL game between the Carolina Hurricanes and the New York Rangers at PNC Center in Raleigh, NC, to promote the upcoming STP 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Martinsville Speedway on March 30. 

Bowyer, who finished second in last spring’s STP 500, will sign autographs on the concourse outside of Section 108 from 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. At 7:00, he will sound the traditional Carolina Hurricanes Warning Siren to bring the `Canes onto the ice for the game. 

Between the first and second periods, Bowyer will be on the ice, playing a game of Percentages with a lucky fan selected by a Hurricanes social media contest. That fan will also be awarded a pair of tickets to the STP 500.  

“We’re looking forward to a fun night with the Hurricanes and Clint,” said Martinsville Speedway President Clay Campbell. “While racing and hockey are totally different sports, there are similarities between hockey and racing at Martinsville: lots of action and plenty of contact.” 

The Carolina Hurricanes were established in Raleigh in 1997 after relocating from Hartford, Connecticut, where the National Hockey League franchise was originally founded in 1979 as the Hartford Whalers. Since their arrival in North Carolina, the Hurricanes have captured three division championships, two Eastern conference titles and the 2006 Stanley Cup championship. The team also hosted the 2004 NHL Draft and the 2011 NHL All-Star Weekend at PNC Arena, where it plays its home games. 

Individual-game tickets for all 41 of the Hurricanes’ regular-season home games, including the March 11 game vs. the New York Rangers, are sold at the PNC Arena Box Office and via Ticketmaster. Teen tickets (ages 13-17) in the same area are $25. Youth and teen ticket prices are good with the purchase of an adult ticket.
