Townley was charged with DUI
after crashing his 2012 BMW into a telephone pole in his native Georgia Tuesday;
his second alcohol-related incident in the last two years. The Athens
Banner-Herald reported today that a 911 caller early Tuesday morning reported
"a suspicious man knocking on the back door of a home.” Officials discovered
Townley "swaying from side to side and bleeding from his bare feet" and
disoriented, and he was arrested and charged with DUI. Sherriff’s deputies
reportedly found blood on the seat and deployed airbags of Townley’s car.
In February of 2010, the then 20-year old
Richard Childress Racing driver was cited for underage possession of alcohol in
Las Vegas. He was allowed to continue with the team, but was released after numerous
crashes in the opening five races of the season. He made four additional starts for RAB Racing later that year,
before inexplicably failing to appear for a race at Richmond International Raceway.
He has been absent from the NASCAR garage for more than a year, before announcing
last month that he will return to RAB Racing to run the full Camping World Truck
Series championship schedule this season.

Could just be a case of one too many and one poor decision, but sounds like he's got some demons to work out.
