John Cena Named Daytona 500 Starter

Cena Set For Daytona Duty
Two-time WWE World Heavyweight champion John Cena has been named honorary starter for the 2012 Daytona 500.

Cena received an “official invitation" from NASCAR Sprint Cup Series title contender and close friend Carl Edwards on Monday's WWE Raw program. He and Edwards share an affection for the Make-A-Wish program, having granted numerous wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses over the years. In fact, Cena is the biggest wish granter in the organization’s history, having  granted more than 250 wishes.

"John Cena is the greatest Superstar in WWE today," said Daytona International Speedway President Joie Chitwood III. "We look forward to seeing him on the flag stand waving the green flag to start 'The Great American Race' and kick off the new NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season."
